Knowing your PanelView's firmware version is the first thing Rockwell support asks for during a troubleshooting call — and the first thing you need before pulling a replacement unit off the shelf. The process is quick once you know where to look, but the menu path differs between PanelView Plus, PanelView Plus 6, and PanelView Plus 7 terminals. This guide covers all three generations.

On most PanelView Plus terminals, boot the unit to the Configuration Mode screen and look under System Information or About — the firmware (FactoryTalk View ME runtime) version is listed there.   • PanelView Plus (original) — catalog numbers starting with 2711P

Step 2: Check Firmware Version — On the Terminal Itself

PanelView Plus and PanelView Plus 6 (2711P series)

  1. If the application is running, exit to Configuration Mode. The method varies by how the application was built — common options include a Go To Config button mapped on the application screen, holding a screen corner for several seconds, or rebooting the terminal and accessing config during the startup sequence before the application loads.   2. From the Configuration Mode main menu, select Terminal Settings.

PanelView Plus 7 Standard

  2. Select the system information option from the main configuration menu.
  3. The FactoryTalk View ME runtime version and the embedded OS version are both listed here.
  4. Alternatively: access the Windows CE desktop (if unlocked), open Control Panel → System, and read the OS build. The FT View runtime version is still best read from Terminal Settings, not Control Panel.

Step 4: Where Is the Firmware File Located?

When you update a PanelView, firmware typically comes from one of two places:

Step 5: How to Manually Update Firmware

  6. Start the upgrade. Do not close the application, do not let the PC sleep, do not lose power to the terminal. The process takes several minutes.
  7. Reboot and verify. After the terminal restarts, go back to System Information and confirm the new version is displayed. Then reload your application file and test.
